Plain-Language Summary
Why This Research Matters
Chronic subdural hematomas are not merely mechanical collections of blood; they involve active inflammatory membranes. Identifying blood biomarkers helps surgeons predict which patients have a higher risk of recurrence before or after surgery.
Research investigating how specific blood markers and clotting indicators relate to how severe a chronic brain bleed is and how well patients recover after surgical evacuation.
Scientific Abstract
Study Abstract
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is increasingly prevalent in the aging population. This investigation evaluated systemic inflammatory markers (including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios) alongside coagulation indices (aPTT and PT) to determine their prognostic significance in clinical severity and postoperative recurrence.
